I'm very happy with a HP LaserJet 1020 I bought off Newegg ($110) not too
long ago.
Seems like everywhere is flooded with 1020's right now. I see them locally
for ~$140+ everywhere.
I compared the HP with the equivalent cheapies from Brother and Samsung.
Reviews put one or the other slightly above the HP, but if you read from
people who had them longer than just for a review -- and actually use
them -- the HP came out ahead.
I mainly just print text; bland text such as documentations and tables. I
don't print that often, but when I do it is hundreds of pages at a time.
Laser was definetly the way to go. I'm pleased with it as it prints my
modest text as nicely as any other laser printer; cheap or expensive.
Figure if I ever get the bug to start printing out pictures from my digital
camera, I'll just get one of those little Epson PictureMate Deluxe "picture
makers". They are remarkable, in my eyes as good as any photos printed from
a lab. Cheap too...
